60 an hour 6 days ago 6 days ago 6 days ago Position Description The Crime Scene Investigator conducts investigations using correct protocols, regulations, and procedures to document, locate, preserve and collect evidence of crimes.
Successful applicants must pass a criminal background check and will be subject to a pre-employment drug screen.
WORK CONDITIONS Crime Scene Investigator positions involve exposure to and require the individual to function in the presence of the following:
Inclement weather, to include extreme heat/cold, rain, ice, wind, etc.
Light conditions associated with day and night Fire, smoke, chemical leaks/spills - as close proximity as necessary to provide emergency services Personal danger, including but not limited to Armed and/or dangerous persons, animals Persons and/or articles with contagious/communicable diseases Hazards associated with emergency driving, traffic control and working in and around traffic Essential Job Functions Responds to the scene of field investigations to assist in the technical investigation of criminal and non-criminal scenes related to physical evidence collection, evaluation, and utilization, when requested.
Performs laboratory examinations of evidence, including specialized processing involving physical, chemical, optical, and digital methods.
Obtains non-testimonial evidence, including hairs, fibers, saliva, blood, and other body fluids from victims, suspects, and dead bodies.
Prepares detailed reports of activities performed during laboratory and scene investigations.
Provides testimony on forensic investigations and laboratory techniques in legal and administrative hearings.
Photographs scenes and evidence Obtains photographs of victims/suspects and documents the procedure in written format.
Provide testimony as a witness in court.
Note, mark, and photograph location of objects found, such as footprints, tire tracks, bullets, bloodstains, and takes measurements of the scene.
Examine records and governmental agency files to find identifying data about suspects.
Submits recovered items of evidence to laboratory personnel.
Must be able to interact with others in a positive manner.
Requires regular and prompt attendance.
Responds to on-call scene investigations during working hours, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as needed.
Performs other essential job duties as assigned.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS May prepare graphic representations and scale drawings for criminal and non-criminal investigations.
May attend post-mortem examinations to assist in the collection of desired evidence.
Assists other personnel with cataloging evidence and placing items of evidence into storage.
Assists in the research and/or development of new laboratory techniques.

Citizen or possess a current permanent resident card; High School Diploma or GED; Ability to obtain IAI Certified Crime Scene Investigator Level 1 within two years of employment; Valid Driver's License and a good driving history; Clean Criminal history (any arrest history will be individually evaluated); Basic Computer Skills (includes Microsoft Office and word processing applications) Preferred:
Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Chemistry, Biology, or a related job field; Experience in Forensics or Crime Scene Investigations with any IAI certifications Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures and strategies to promote effective local, state or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property and institutions.
Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality and interests; learning and motivation.
Knowledge of local, state and federal laws, legal codes, court procedures, Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar.
Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedure and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, and other office procedures and terminology.
Working knowledge of Sheriff's Office policies or ability to acquire such knowledge in a short amount of time Skill in the use of a variety of computer programs, to include operation of Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and various other office equipment including phones, faxes, scanners, printers and copiers Technical skills to perform routine trouble shooting on office equipment (computers, faxes, scanners, printers, copiers) Ability to type with speed and accuracy, compose correspondence Ability to compose effective and accurate correspondence Ability to deal with non-routine matters Ability to complete complex work with minimal instructions, keep records and reference files, assemble and organize data Ability to work in an environment that requires strict adherence to instructions, standards, and/or procedures.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
